Our Aim.

Our aim is simple:

  • Act as coach and as mentor
  • Apply modern sports science
  • Apply experience to educate and progress each individual
  • To provide a high standard competition & meet-day preparation for both beginner and elite powerlifters
  • Promote the Mental Health benefits of strength training

Our Ethos.

We are Jake and Sabrina, active powerlifters and trainers. We walk a different path, providing a training approach that educates and informs so that we may work together in building the most comprehensive programs for the individual. Blending our practical experiences with modern sports science to develop our approach

What is Powerlifting?

As well as working remotely with trainees, Donut Barbell will provide local meets to support those who may be a little daunted by the platform.

I worked with Jake through a 3 month meet prep leading into my first powerlifting meet. The programming prior to the meet was a little different than I was used to. My programming was customised to my needs, looking at weak points, and was congruent with all the current recommendations for strength programming. The weekly evaluations of technique, form and even the social support from Jake were extremely encouraging and helpful. Following 12 weeks with Jake, I was stronger, marginally leaner and more confident in lifting. I competed in Swansea and thus was able to get on the day coaching from Jake, as a team effort I was able to achieve 9/9 lifts and new personal best in the squat and deadlift overall. I highly recommend Jake to take your training to the next level, he is efficient, supportive, empathic and very passionate in his coaching. Jake offers a fantastic package and he really cares for your goals! I will be working with Jake again for sure.

I have been working with Jake as an online client for two years and in that time I have achieved things that I had never felt were possible. To list a few I reached a very long term goal of getting a double bodyweight squat, squatted 100 unbroken reps at 65kg, got leaner than ever and completed a double marathon on a rowing machine, all within the same 12 month period. Jake has always been very supportive and his video check ins help build my motivation and knowledge each week, he also checks my form on lifts via video and really does seem to be able to read my mind when suggesting new goals and challenges. I would recommend Jake to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and caring coach who always displays integrity. You don’t have to be a powerlifter, Jake will help you reach your goals whether it be fat loss, improved health or spending 7.5hrs on an indoor rowing machine. There are a lot of coaches and PTs out there, I found one of the good ones.

I’ve worked with Jake and for Donut Barbell for 4 months and I can honestly say that the transformation in my strength and form is evident in such a sport space of time. Before training with Donut Barbell, I was not able to squat past 120kg, neither shift past 140kg deadlift. 2 months into my new training plan, I qualified for GB championship with a 145kg squat and 170kg deadlift - results came quick! Jake provides specific training sessions for each athlete and works around your schedule which is so important to me as I’m a student and working but I’m able to get the balance just right and most importantly- I really enjoy the sessions because they’re always different! A great trainer and truly encouraging!
